Xu Xiaowei
Art Studio

Xu Xiaowei’s dystopian dream-like collages merger memory with fantasy, reflecting the chaos of modern China’s evolution.

Xu Xiaowei is an acclaimed Chinese photographer whose work spans high-profile collaborations with Vogue, Bazaar, Elle, L’Officiel and Life Magazine. Originally trained in oil painting, Xu has built a parallel career as a visual artist, creating photography-based artworks that diverge from his commercial success in fashion photography. His distinctive vision has earned him the Gold Award in Press/Fashion at the Prix de la Photographie Paris and the Award of Excellence from Communication Arts in 2017.
Xu’s work embodies a blend of technical precision and artistic exploration, making him a prominent figure in contemporary Chinese art.
Works

All living things, including human, are bound by various things, and the existence of restraint is one of the laws of nature. People have to face the “shackles” of “time”, and the soul is also bound to the body. People cannot be freed from the shackles of bondage, just as there must be traces wherever life passes.
